This page will attempt to give a balanced look and a comparison of operating systems on Windows 7, Mac OS Z and Ubuntu, and which operating systems are better in which areas in various areas of technical specification, user interface design and compatibility. The purpose of this article is to give you the strong and weak points of each system, so you can decide which one is best for you. The information in this article may or not be true- but the very fact you are reading it proves you don't know what the hell you're talking about, so I should be safe.

List[edit | edit source]

Version Number[edit | edit source]

  • Windows: Version 7, but in the inner workings of the OS, it's referred to as version 6.1, since it is service pack 1 for Vista. This is blatant cheating, falsely increasing Windows's score by as much as 15%, fooling new users into thinking the version number is much better than it is. And oh so technically, it is in fact Windows 12.
  • Lion: 10.7 is higher than Windows 7, although Ubuntu wins by 1.3 versions. BEAT THAT!
  • Ubuntu: Ubuntu 11.10 puts it at a solid 70% above Windows 7, although using Windows's true version number puts Ubuntu as being 49% better than Windows.

At this point, knowing that Lions's version number is a full 3.7 digits higher than Windows, you may be wondering if Windows is so hopelessly far behind that it is done for. But if I told you the answer right now, you would stop reading and not get the pure joy of reading all my other bad jokes.

Colors[edit | edit source]

  • Windows GLASS EVERYWHERE! *shatters the screen*
  • Lion: I'm sure these traffic light things at the right tell when I can close the window. Unfortunately, they're all on at the same time.
  • Ubuntu Black and purple? Who designed these things? Add some blue.

Special Features on desktop[edit | edit source]

  • Windows: You can move the windows around.
  • Lion: A dock built in. That's nice. Widgets, and a convenient way to eject devices.
  • Ubuntu: The Ubuntu user has TONS of space, as each user gets 4 workspaces. Basically you get 4 desktops that you can switch back and forth to with a click of a button. Very cool feature.*+3 points*

Security[edit | edit source]

  • Windows: Daddy, I downloaded something and now it won't work?
  • Lion: Apps are downloaded as .dmg whch may dmg ur sustum.
  • Ubuntu: Scanning: nothing. Scanning: nothing again. Scanning AGAIN: nothing.

Price[edit | edit source]

  • Windows: $160 dollar??!!
  • Lion: $549 dollar??!!
  • Ubuntu: $0 dollar??!!

Installing software[edit | edit source]

  • Windows: You're always hunting around on the internet for something.
  • Lion: An App Store nd .dmg fles oon the ootonot? Gud!
  • Ubuntu: Same as above, but instead being .dmg fles thy r .deb files.

Eye Candy[edit | edit source]

  • Windows: Snap.
  • Lion: Apple invented eye-candy with Mac OS X. Any questions?
  • Ubuntu: DESKTOP CUBE IS... AWESOME! WHEEEE! Oh wait, it's broken. RING SWITCHER! Oh wait, you can only do this in GNOME Shell.

Gaming[edit | edit source]

  • Windows: There's loads of games. If you want to pay £500 for a computer, that is.
  • Lion: Some on Steam.
  • Ubuntu: Supertuxkart away!

Ubuntu is the winner for this round, but...

Note: This article makes reference to "wine" several times. In case you don't know, wine is program that allows Unix users to run some windows programs. It plays some programs...it does not play others. This makes Roger Twynham very happy:

“I can now play all my golfing games! A HA HA HA HA! A HA HA HA!”

This article is burly men unfolding umbrellas.
Maybe you should help it on its way.
