“Hold my turban while I rob this rich traveller, then bang him”

~ Dick Turban on highway robbery

Dick Turban, also known as Richard De Turban Khan III, was the Indian subcontinent's most prominent criminal in the eighteenth century. Since they didn't have carts in those days, people got around on camels and other assorted dromedaries. Turban, however, was able to keep one step ahead of his victims by riding a horse he stole from an English tourist - the first ever to visit India, in fact.

Dick was distinguishable by his rather large turban, popular headgear in the region, which also doubled as a crash helmet when he appeared in Only Fools and Horses. Many years later, Turban would be immortalised on popular stalking site Facebook in the 'Hold my Turban' group. Currently 2,492 people and a further 734 made up imaginary friend profiles are members of said group.
