Forum:An important announcement I forgot to make

I forgot what it was. Sorry. ~ Pointy.png 19:29, 17 Arply 2012

Oh, right. So there were a couple things:
  1. Gruntled has legs, even after the bats.
  2. We're moving the site to a new server.
    • This may happen sometime in May or June; currently we're waiting on Carlb to actually give us a dump of the database. Nerd42 contacted him about a week ago, but he has yet to respond.
    • If all else fails, we should be able to pull most of the wiki (revisions and images) out through the API, but that wouldn't include accounts or logs, nor would it speak at all well to our present host's, shall we say, character.
    • We have a few possibilities for servers; transitions between whatever should be fairly seamless once we get the database set up one way or another.
  3. Nerd42 found an octopus on his pillow.
  4. If we had a cabal, it would have decided that Illogicomedia is unaffiliated with Illogicopedia, but we don't, mostly because nobody has been paying attention. So I made up some reasons based on a Seppy comment instead:
    • No common administration
    • No community
    • No security against spammers and the like, and a general lack of effective configuration
    • Lack of knowledge and caring about it here, or much of a connection at all
  5. Silent Penguin is no good at plaiting his own hair.
    • Neither am I, for that matter.
  6. I'm not wearing any pants. ~ Pointy.png 20:09, 17 Arply 2012

Wait no. We are the real Illogimedia. The other site, being unaffiliated with us at this point, is technically infringing on our trademark, though we don't care much. --Nerd42 (talk) 17:02, 1 Aym 2012 (UTC)

Drats... I was hoping for an announcement that the spambots on this site had been dismantled with soldering irons and recycled as spare parts to repair our existing servers (one of which is currently down due to a bad power supply, making this site infernally slow lately). The only thing more frustrating than waiting a week or more for spare 1U server parts is waiting a week or more for this page to load... Carlb (talk) 17:12, 1 Aym 2012 (UTC)
Wait, uh, we're moving to a new server? Agh, I go away for a few months and crap like this happens. I'd like to hear from Sideshow Mel on this matter. -- Hindleyak  Converse?blogClick here! 11:20, 4 Aym 2012 (UTC)
Well, if carlb ever gets us the database, aye; otherwise ?pedia's just going to die. It's already mostly dead, though... I think Mr. Mel was with the last cart. ~ Pointy.png 20:12, 4 Aym 2012
@Athyria NOOOOOOOO! Don't die Illogicopedia! ~Runner-Up Keeper of the Bloodwine Dan the Hedgehog.png Forum logo banana.png Eclipse.PNG BANANA BATLETH.png 23:11, 05/06/2012
It'd better not. But even with it up, though, these loading times could be enough to kill it, unfortunately. -— Athyria User talk:AthyriaUser talk:AthyriaUser talk:Athyria 20:25, 7 Aym 2012 (UTC)
@ Love the new sig, btw! ~Runner-Up Keeper of the Bloodwine Dan the Hedgehog.png Forum logo banana.png Eclipse.PNG BANANA BATLETH.png 23:05, 05/07/2012
Yay! It's my wikipedian signature. Sort of. -— Athyria User talk:AthyriaUser talk:AthyriaUser talk:Athyria 01:09, 8 Aym 2012 (UTC)

Goodbye Roberto...I think. --Colonel Sanders (talk) 17:30, 8 Aym 2012 (UTC)

There are three servers; 'roberto' is up, 'oscar' is up, 'sophia' has been down (bad power supply) as of whenever the servers were moved late last month. The replacement power supply got here today; I shipped it out to the datacentre and am waiting for it to be installed so that we can have our third server back. Some of the sites on this co-located three-server set (Desciclopédia Brazil, Ansaikuropedia Japan in particular) are huge, so shifting 'sophia's workload to 'roberto' has slowed him to a crawl... which is most frustrating when trying to use the sites. I shall refrain from saying "damn you, roberto" this time and try to be nice... nothing else works Carlb (talk) 20:36, 8 Aym 2012 (UTC)
It is good that the state of the hardware is looking up, but Carlb, could we please get a copy of our database? We do appreciate everything you have done for us over the years, but Illogicopedia is small and its users fickle and this unreliability is just killing us. Please, when things are up and running more smoothly again, take the time to get us our database so we can move. With any luck, you should then be able to focus more on the other, larger projects in the future; they need you to be there for them. We need you to let us go. -— Athyria User talk:AthyriaUser talk:AthyriaUser talk:Athyria 19:44, 9 Aym 2012 (UTC)
