Forum:Leave your requests here!

From Illogicopedia
Jump to navigation Jump to search

As statistically active members of the illogicopedia.wikia.com community we all still have the right to request an admin for deletions of articles, and it doesn't matter where it is: IRC, forums... yeah. So, if you don't want your articles associated with Wikia, please leave them in a list on this page and I'll deal with it (and the other werewolves will back me up, right?). The reason it'd be in a list is to circumvent Wikia janitors asking us to prove the article deletion has been requested. So each article must be individually requested to be deleted. Talk pages will automatically follow as they are orphaned. You all happy with this? Begin. ColourfulMetalFlower.jpgMMF!talk←/→admin(:D) 22:16, 3 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)

No, the politics and red tape here is more complex than this, i'm sorry--Silent Penguin 00:40, 4 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
Indeed. In a nutshell, we could go around deleting our articles from the old Illogicopedia but Wikia could just restore them all. The sticking point is this: Wikia think the "community" should decide what happens to the articles, and since we are "no longer part of that community" we have "no say in what goes on there". Of course, many would disagree with that (and they do) and there's the stalemate.
Seppy, why don't we just get together and create a formal email to Wikia from me, you, Nerd, MMF, HellolleH, Testicles, Asema etc (basically who was here when we moved to Wikia) and ask for the old wiki to be closed down? I don't think we've tried it yet - all we've done is bicker with a Wikia drone. This needs to be taken higher up... of course, they'll probably disagree but then again things can only get better from hereon in. -- Hindleyak  Converse?blogClick here! 11:50, 4 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
We could do, I doubt it will do much, we can talk about it on irk maybe and get all the admins around involved with it, make sure everyone is on board.--Silent Penguin 16:04, 4 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
Y'all should definitely assemble an e-mail to wikia asking them to shut down the old wiki. Arguing with Kyleh won't get us anywhere, he ignores half the stuff we write on his talk page and asserts that he's acting in the "interest of the community" despite the fact that he's ignored the wishes of EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US. SO YEAH, YOU GUYS SHOULD TRY AN EMAIL TO BIGGER WIKIA PEOPLE. OOPS, I LEFT CAPS LOCK ON. CAPS LOCK IS TANGLED AND WHITE LIKE SHOELACES. --THE 22:08, 4 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
The issue needs to be escalated outside Wikia; it is clear that wikia:user:KyleH (forking Illogicopedia) and wikia:user:Sannse (forking TFwiki) are merely drones following orders of corporate masters. The problem is higher. It may also be worth keeping an eye out for this sort of thing as info critical of Wikia is now being removed from WP, it seems. Keeping a record of all the requests made by authors asking their content be removed is valuable, however, should escalation be necessary. That way, if an author does have to approach a Wikia advertiser or investor, all the information is there ("I am the author of {PAGENAME}. I am currently active on illogicopedia.org, Wikia has been leaving a competing wiki operational at illogicopedia.wikia.com with name, logo and branding confusing with the prior use of the marks by Illogicopedia elsewhere. I have made a request that the content which I have authored be removed [cite each request for removal, by date and article name]. These request(s), and the community's requests that illogicopedia.wikia.com be renamed or closed, made [cite relevant incidents], have all been bluntly and repeatedly ignored by Wikia Inc. My originally-authored content continues to appear on illogicopedia.wikia.com, along with advertisements for [name of advertiser to which this is addressed] and its product [product name] despite requests for its removal. I object to the use of my original work in this manner. While I am not an attorney and cannot advise on the legal issues involved, it would appear that this sort of activity does reflect badly on [name of advertiser] if your company continues to advertise in this context. The pages in question are abandoned and are effectively being used to trick search engines into drawing web traffic away from the original author's contributions to an active Illogicopedia community elsewhere. Could you please remove your company's advertisements from the pages in question?") and there is a clear trail of events in case anyone wants to question the factual history of this incident. --Carlb 23:23, 4 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
Carlb, did I ever tell you how much I love you? :P ColourfulMetalFlower.jpgMMF!talk←/→admin(:D) 12:21, 5 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
Hands off him, he's mine.
I'll admit I found the AN case against John Reaves a bit "superfluous" (to use his own words), the Finkelstein article in question would be fine if it were worked into a controversy section (with other articles - layoff of staff, the Jimbo Wales thing) but as it is it would seem tagged on to paste it as an external link at the end. What we need is to get together and write a paragraph or two based on reputable press sources. The Finkelstein article is biased but it was printed in the Guardian, a perfectly notable newspaper published in the UK. And, the fact that people are beginning to move away from Wikia in their droves ought to be reported somewhere pretty soon, if not, we ought to bring the Complaints Wiki to the general attention of the press. Or is it too biased? Do we need a neutral write up on the matter? I dunno. As a side note, I only found out that Seth was American in the last few days :)
May I also note this isn't really about law any longer - it's simple ethics and general respect for people. -- Hindleyak  Converse?blogClick here! 12:34, 5 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
The law comes into it in places, but its not really our gripe to have with wikia, as for using our name, that is yet another matter, the first thing most businesses do when things come short is to throw social respectability in the bin, that doesn't mean you discard your cooperate respectability, like wikia has done, they have pritty much pulled their own skin off and shown the world what they really are. --Silent Penguin 16:27, 5 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
I noticed wikia havent been as forward in their wiki protecting lately, sannse strolled by once to delete something, and that is about it, hmm.--Silent Penguin 17:15, 7 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
You don't suppose they've... given up? Given up on this wiki they supposedly cared so much about enough to keep it, to desysop an esteemed admin and generally muck up? Still, if I went about deleting/reverting all my articles I'm sure they'd revert em sooner or later. Orrr, maybe they're making us think we've won when in fact they will just restore them at the click of a button when we aren't looking. -- Hindleyak  Converse?blogClick here! 18:50, 7 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)

Requests[edit source]

By "Fluffalizer", old wiki name (on Wikia) "The Divine Fluffalizer", requested 16:23, 5 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)

  • "The Omnipresent Symbol Table In The Sky"
  • "Fish"
  • "Some"
  • "Francis E. Dec"
  • "Frankenstein Slavery"
  • "の"
  • "Eeble sonk"
  • "The Cheese" (if Hindleyite, other major contributor, agrees. edit: others listed deleted)
  • "Disillusionment" (very appropriate!)
  • "Lemon fish hair"
  • "Illogicopedia Pipeline"
  • "Lossy cheese integration"
  • "SNEeSe"
  • "The Holy Broken Chair of Fluffiness"
  • "Fluff"
  • "Bleab"
  • "Fish grate Ung"
I agree about The Cheese. In fact, I want all my articles deleted from the old Wikia but I feel it would probably be fruitless. -- Hindleyak  Converse?blogClick here! 17:27, 5 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)

Could someone actually properly export the edit history of Goat sodomy? I believe Testostereich just copied and pasted it over. --Anotherpongo 14:30, 7 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)

Done. If anyone spots any similar articles, don't hesitate to tell us about it. -- Hindleyak  Converse?blogClick here! 17:19, 7 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)

I'd like to see "I looked under my doormat and found a mango and started screaming at it even though mangos have no ears" axed. Also, these:

  • The Three (or two) Brothers (and sister) and the mighty Secession Tree
  • Tree Hunt!
  • The Tremendous Appendix of Infinity
  • The Monstrous Monster from the Murky Marsh
  • Slugs.

Those should keep me content, at least for now. --THE 18:23, 7 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)

Request fulfilled. Fingers crossed they aren't restored. -- Hindleyak  Converse?blogClick here! 18:50, 7 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)

GFDL considerations[edit source]

If you have posted an article on most Wikia sites, you are releasing it under the General Free Documentation License. Our old site was GFDL and thus we have no right to demand something like this which is completely outside the terms of the license we agreed to when we posted. They have the right to host a copy of our site if they want. We have the right to move and edit elsewhere. Considerations of "what the community wants" only come into play insofar as Wikia's own policies say so. --Nerd42 00:03, 10 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)

Well I'm pretty sure throughout Wikia I've seen examples that author requested deletions are allowed. Uncyclopedia's a big example there, all you have to do is QVFD it. ColourfulMetalFlower.jpgMMF!talk←/→admin(:D) 11:07, 10 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
I'm well aware of all this GFDL stuff but it's not really about law, it's about respect. At least that's what I've been blabbing on about for the past three weeks - if you look, I've never really brought licenses into the whole thing. It's an unwritten rule in the Illogicopedia that if an author wants their article deleted, then it would be just mean to deny fulfilling their request. Sure, we released all rights to the content at Wikia and we're screwed in that sense but it would just plain stink that Wikia would stoop so low as to cite legal/licensing issues in this matter. If we delete the stuff on author request, then Wikia should just let it be.
Also, do we need to add a bit of text to the footers at the bottom of each page saying that before Nov 08 the content was GFDL? Just a question.
PS, Nerd, you spoilsport. :P -- Hindleyak  Converse?blogClick here! 11:53, 10 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
