Forum:Rules for IRC op behavior?

From Illogicopedia
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Today I got into a bit of a fight with some of the folks on the IRC channel when SilentPenguin wasn't there. I'd kicked somebody for indiscriminate swearing which resulted in a long argument. I think we ought to have some rules as to language on the IRC channel.

As for my own opinion/desires, I'd like for Illogicopedia to be safe enough not only for work but for kids (10 to 13) to be able to use it. But it rather doesn't look like that's going to happen. Still, we should have some standards as to what's permissible on the IRC channel and what's not so that if I have to do anything using the op powers, I know whether I'm following rules or abusing authority. --Nerd42 21:27, 19 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)

Sorry mate about last night but itd be hard to get rid of swering on IRC altogether. If people don't like swearing, they shoudn't come here!--Ben Blade 13:56, 20 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)82.38.172.80 13:52, 20 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
Well, you can't always legislate for people who use more industrial language. I'd rather keep Illogicopedia in a form where we don't have to stick a 14+ message on the front page. Use swearing only for literary impact, you buncha ****s! :D -- Hindleyak  Converse?blogClick here! 14:22, 20 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
If there was a 14+ message, I wouldn't be able to edit (and it looks like I'm the one who started all this!) Swearing is OK but were no ED. Mind you, they just won a award! It should have gone to Wikihow.--Ben Blade 15:12, 20 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
ED won an award for cyberbullying and flaming? Wow. :P -- Hindleyak  Converse?blogClick here! 15:25, 20 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
They won an Open Web Award in the Wiki category, but only because the entire community created like 30 accounts each to vote for themselves lol. Jезка 23:08, 20 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)

Well you know this is a bit off subject - I was wanting to ask what the rules are or ought to be for the IRC channel. It's busy enough that we ought to have some. --Nerd42 16:33, 22 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)

Freenode policy pritty much applies here dude --Silent Penguin 20:13, 23 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
