Stanford University's Folding@home project uses distributed computing to simulate and analyze the folding of proteins to research their role in many diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, Huntington's, Parkinson's disease, and many cancers and cancer-related syndromes.

You can be an hero to all humankind without lifting a finger. All you need to do is run the software in the background. Whatever CPU power you don't need goes to good use, and the software gives the CPU up easily when you need it. Compete against each other and against other teams, all for a great cause.

How to Join[edit | edit source]

  1. Download the software and choose a user name. Use your Illogicopedia name or some variation so we can recognize you from the site.
  2. Install and configure with your user name and a team number.
  3. Set it and forget it. Folding an individual work unit (WU) can take hours or days, depending on your computer and the size of the work unit.
