Forum:The image tagging project - please read

From Illogicopedia
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Hello again. I bet you're sick of me leaving these boring messages here but just bare with me a sec...

I was reading the Wikia terms of use and apparently it's a "contractual obligation" that every image on Illogicopedia be stamped with an appropriate copyright tag. Not that we usually bother much with copyrights but Wikia could easily boot us off their servers or something. So over the weekend you may have noticed the addition of the 'licenses' drop down menu on the image upload page. The project is twofold:

  1. Tagging all untagged images (approx 10% so far)
  2. To ensure all images in the future are tagged appropriately (easier)

Whaz this got to do wimmee?[edit source]

What we would like you to is to check images you have uploaded personally and tag 'em. If everyone does their bit it'll be peaks.

Which tags to use[edit source]

  • {{GFDL}}, for most images. Anything uploaded to any Wikia wiki is licensed under GNU Public Documentation license.
  • {{GFDL-self}} - same as above but created entirely by yourself. An example would be Welcome.png.
  • {{Copyedit}} - image is an edit of pixels from various sources. Where appropriate, supplement with other tags such as the GFDL one.
  • {{Fairuse}} for most copyrighted images including DVD covers, works of art and book covers. If you think the image is copyrighted, use this.
  • {{TVScreenshot}} for television screenshots and logos. Pretty self-explanatory.

See here for full list and more info.

You don't have to do it but the admins will be very grateful for your help, and may just offer a gold star...

And one more thing, the admins are going round attempting to tag the 1300 as yet untagged pics on Illogic. If you find one of your images already tagged but incorrectly, please rectumify this.

Thank you for your co-operation on this matter and if you've read this far award yourself a Nutri Grain. -- Hindleyak  Converse?blogClick here! 13:18, 1 Jumbly 2008 (UTC)
