Reverend Zim ulator's Guide to Personal Eschatology
This is an easy one. In fact, to some it may look suspiciously like junk science. I begin with the conclusion, and attempt to form hypotheses. Well, insofar as I can tell, this may be so, and so, so be it.
Step 1[edit | edit source]
Learn some science. Encounter the facts that:
- Things change. Always. Quickly. The universe expands. Elements, molecules, matter, organisms form. Cells divide, die, are replaced[1]. We are born and die.
- Incorporate such facts into your mind as a whole.
- Allow such facts to influence your spirituality.
- Realize that rebirth is continual. It is up to you to catch it in the act.[2]
Step 2[edit | edit source]
Pay attention!
Step 3[edit | edit source]
Practice compassion.
- Try to understand the others perspective.
- Sometimes compassion can appear to be hard. Certain situations require one to deny a favor, say something mean, ignoring the other...
Step 4[edit | edit source]
Acquire wisdom. Do this by getting smarter. Get smarter by practicing compassion, reading, going to school, listening (paying attention)... more to come... perhaps...
Step 5[edit | edit source]
Try not to be such a dick. Because you're human, there are times in life that you do or think something dickish. This is caused by ego grasping for more... anything. It's easy to reduce dickery in your own life, assuming you can be honest.
- Pay attention.
- Whenever you're being a dick, notice it.
- Remind yourself to reduce your dickery coefficient.
Over time, with repitition, you will stop being such a dick. Unless you like being a dick, you want to be a dick. In this case, you may want to tell your tales of dickishness at HowTo:Be a dick.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
- ↑ I'd read somewhere that every cell in a human has been replaced by the end of seven years. I don't state is as fact, but rather to illustrate that on a biological level, we are continuously born anew.
- ↑ Experiencing such a thing is called by many names. Spiritual awakening, satori, nirvana, et cetera. There's a whole bunch of books written by folks much smarter and more enlightened than I, and I recommend them to those of you who want to have their own little adventure in spiritual reengineering. Also, pay attention to other people. Most anyone could have something to teach you, and sprinkled among human populations are some guru-level primates who help others move things along. Some folks call them "Bodhisattvas".
