Space bush
Space bush is a pop cult 1960s movie about a trimmed garden bush in space. The movie famously got confused with a porn flick as thousands of horny men flocked to the début in 1964.
Despite this the film turned out to be a huge box office success, even though half the people watching it still thought it was porn and realised they were masturbating to a herbaceous border.
Critics are still divided as to what this movie contributed to classic cinema. Caves (being the habitat of most film critics) were burning at a solid pace of two yards per wick. Roy Ross, the main film critic who presents "what day is it?" said this of the film: "I found it funny. Especially the bits where Giles trims his bush and he says "I'm trimming my wife's bush!" It's a painfully subtle movie!"
Synopsis[edit | edit source]
The movie begins with a serene view of British suburbia, with gardeners all trimming their hedgerows. Although rainy and sentimental, many critics say this is the best part of the film. Then a man in a black suit comes into Mr Giles's back garden and asks him he he would like to send his wife's bush out into space. Giles accepts and the adventure begins.
Then it switches to the bush floating above earth with classical music playing. The direction in this bit is fantastic as the cameramen didn't actually focus on the bush, rather the brilliant view of earthrise, which turned out to be Andrews eye lash. In fact the director wasn't in space but had stole some archive footage from December 2nd 1972 and was under copyright micro-edit law. It didn't bother them that they were living in 1964 though. They mistook the footage for 1969.
The ending is the most controversial of the whole film as it was just a white screen for half an hour. One suspected subliminal message at the end shows the director rolling in cash but was shown for a nano second.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- A carrot was filmed secretly gorging on carrots during the making of the film. Carrot fired.
