Tourettes with psychographic features is a subclass of Tourette syndrome, an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder with onset in childhood. Most forms of Tourettes are characterized by multiple physical (motor) tics and at least one vocal (phonic) tic. These tics characteristically wax and wane, can be suppressed temporarily, and are preceded by a premonitory urge. Tourette's is defined as part of a spectrum of tic disorders, which includes provisional, transient and persistent (chronic) tics.

Cases presenting with psychographic features have a singular type of tic. This manifests as sudden fits where a sufferer will suddenly write something of no consequence. It may contain cursing or other types of shock words, but in all cases the content ultimately makes no sense.
