Illogicopedia has now officially 'left' Wikia. There was no particular point when this happened: as has been stated, the transition would take a while to complete, maybe a month, after which a message would be posted in the Wikia forum/email them about our departure in an official leaving note. Wikia, however, want to speed things up and already regard the Illogicopedia community as gone - evidence for this can be found in their continuing reluctance to retain a link to the new Illogicopedia on their front page. For this reason, it can be officially said that Illogicopedia have departed Wikia.
But I thought Illogicopedia left a couple of weeks ago![edit | edit source]
Well, yeah, but now we're making it official.
So, Illogicopedia has nothing to do with Wikia now?[edit | edit source]
It isn't quite as simple as that. Wikia want to keep the old Illogicopedia open, so Illogicopedia's progress has/is currently being hindered by:
- Wikia removing links to the new site from illogicopedia.wikia.com's front page
- Wikia refusing to close the old wiki, resulting in difficulty establishing Google rank for the independent site
- Bickering over morals and the departing community's wishes for the fate of the old wiki
Wikia are currently keeping the name 'Illogicopedia' for the old wiki. It has been suggested the old site's name be changed, but what will happen exactly is unknown at this point.
The collective administration and regular users decided the old site be shut down, as
- The community has moved here
- Wikia continue to host our content (against at least one user's will)
Wikia are reluctant to do so. Compromise is being sought, but progress is slow.
An unprecedented move?[edit | edit source]
Well, not quite. The Transformers Wiki was the first 'big name' Wikia wiki to depart. Whether or not Illogicopedia is quite on the same level as tfwiki is debatable, but it is certainly the first of Wikia's creative wikis to leave.
However, Transformers left solely because of New Monaco. Illogicopedia planned to move before the New Monaco saga but the forced advertisements convinced the community that being hosted by Wikia would no longer benefit them and be more of a hindrance. Though the ads situation has been rectified somewhat, the fact remains that Wikia forced the changes upon Illogicopedia without the consent of its community. Other, small conflicts of interest such as favouring sites with the Monaco skin for spotlight provided further evidence that Wikia was not entirely on Illogicopedia's side.
Continued disagreements, including Wikia's reluctance to accept the site creators' wishes, have generated a large amount of animosity and bad blood between the two parties. All the above have left administrators in no doubt that Wikia was certainly not the place for Illogicopedia to stay and that all ties (including shared content) should be severed before Illogicopedia's progress is hindered further.
