The balloon drifts gently down to a clearing in the forest a few kilometers from your house.
You climb out of the basket. As you step away from the balloon, it makes a soft grunting noise and fades away to nothing.[1]
Somewhat to your surprise, you notice that it's snowing like a blizzard here. You can barely see the trees a few yards away. Furthermore, you notice with intense disgust that the stench is back. If you can judge by the smell, something very bad happened not very far from here ... and it's still happening, whatever it is.
What would you like to do?
- Go home -- you've had enough for one day, and it smells bad here.
- Find the source of the stench
- Climb a tree
- Dig a hole
- Go south
- ↑ thus saving the author the trouble of figuring out what to do with the thing in later scenes
