Antigua and Barbuda is an island nation in the southern Caribbean Sea, consisting of three islands: Antigua, Barbuda, and Redonda, in the northern part of the Lesser Antilles. The government is a constitutional monarchy. The land area is 443 square kilometers (same size as Tanegashima in Japan). As of 2011, the population was 88,000. The population density is 198.4 people/km2. The capital is St. John's. The country's name is a compound word of Antigua and Barbuda, with Antigua named after the Church of Santa Maria de la Antigua (formerly Santa Maria Church) in Seville, Spain, a place associated with Christopher Columbus, and Barbuda is said to have been written on maps in confusion with Barbados, and then became an English accent.
