Ambient Wiggle Legs

People have this thing about babies. Ever notice that? Even the most seemingly "tough" people--motorcycle gangsters, serial killers, corrupt dictators--even these people turn to jello when they spot a baby. They all gather round and stare at it and it becomes an object of conversation. They ask how many months old it is, as if it's a bottle of wine.

Is this a behaviour shown exclusively in humans? Or do other creatures do the same thing? I don't know about you, but I could easily picture a group of frogs gathered around a frog egg (not WOHO not WOHO) and saying "It's adorable! So...round!"

I can picture a group of flies saying "What a lovely maggot! The way he chews that carcass's rotting flesh is so sweet!"

Perhaps creatures stare at babies because they are fascinated by infancy. They don't remember what it's like to be that tiny. To not have to pay income taxes. To not have to mow the lawn. To not have to do anything at all except eat, drink, poop, make odd gurgling noises, and make ambient leg wiggling.

And you know what else? It doesn't matter how advanced the human race becomes. Babies will still be babies, just as they always have been. Clay. When you look at a baby, you are, in every sense of the word, looking at the past. And look at its cute little legs!!!
