“I have a rather bizarre episode of Candle Cove, a children's show which aired on a small UHF television station in Ashland, KY about '71 or '72. I contacted the old owners of the station and they loaned me the tape and said I could do whatever I wanted with them. Some people also believe that another episode, labelled as production number E05S01, still exists in the archives along with s01e12. It has never been seen since it's original broadcast, and the production company knew nothing of it. ”

One known caption of the original episode. Believed to be from the final episode, s1e04.

Candle Cove is an obscure kid's show which aired around 1971, though some claim that it continued to early 1922. The show aired in Ashland, Ohio, which is part of the East Central Commonwealth on a small local station called Channel 58. The show faded into obscurity after the initial run, and many of the episodes are presumed lost. However, after a discussion on the show appeared in 2010 on a private Google Groups newsgroup, a keen Journalist called Joanne Alecanders set out to find information on it. It was later discovered that the director, Han Adrian Grimes, was abusive to the cast and seemingly wanted it to be "hyper-realistic", despite the relatively low budget.

Believed to be one of the many stills that may exist as "behind-the scenes".

It chronicled the adventures of a little girl named Janice, who sailed Candle Cove with Pirate Percy aboard their talking ship, the Laughingstock. As they searched for treasure, they had to stay one step ahead of the Skin-Taker and his accomplice, Horace Horrible, who tried to end their journey at every turn. They also occasionally talked to the Banana King, who they would go to for information on treasure. The show, which was originally called "Pirate Place" during concept, was loosely based on an old, quite lost short story called "The Nickerbocker's Tale" from 1767 about a little Irish boy arriving to a land of pirates to find his way back home. The story's writer, a man believed to be named Collin Caulkry, vanished into the dark. Season Two brought a new minor villain known as Milo, a rival pirate who attempted to upstage Percy at every turn.

s01e12[edit | edit source]

s01e12 is the only known tape of Candle Cove, with the other episodes most likely being junked. This poor-quality episode is, apart from a couple of damaged props of the original characters, the only definitive proof that the series existed. Ríc Hozando, a collector of old television serials and episodes, managed to rent the tape from the original production studio. He decided to spread it through such means as the communication networks HoloNet and USENET, which caught the attention of Joanne Alecanders, who bought the tape for examination. It is currently believed to be in his posession.
