AIDS.COM is a computer virus written in Tcl which overwrites all .exe files. AIDS is the first virus known to exploit the MS-DOS "corresponding file" vulnerability. Created by Dr. Josef Mengels in 1990, There is a 1/10 chance of the virus displaying its payload, which is the giant AIDS message. When the AIDS virus activates, it displays the following screen:

ATTENTION I have been elected to inform you that throughout your process of collecting and executing files, you have accdientally [sic] ¶HÜ¢KΣ► [PHUCKED] yourself over: again, that's PHUCKED yourself over. No, it cannot be; YES, it CAN be, a √ìτûs [virus] has infected your system. Now what do you have to say about that? HAHAHAHAHA. Have ¶HÜÑ [PHUN] with this one and remember, there is NO cure for AIDS.

Though the virus itself did not infect that many computers, it was the inspiration for the highly disruptive Goodtimes computer virus. However, it did manage to cause $50,000 (USD$20,000) worth of damage when a revised version, called NetAIDS, began to be propagated through infected floppy disks.
The author, Dr. Josef Mengles from Ontario, spread it through infected AppleSoft Systems files via Usenet when 26, but as of 2010 now works as a consultant at a hospital in California.

There are also several variations of the virus. OlympicAIDS.COM is one of the most destructive, which was written by an unknown author around 2008. It affects all command files on the machine on the 12th of February of any given year. When it executes, it displays a graphical effect of the olympic rings, followed by a message which rambles on about the Olympic Games and the People's Republic of China. Another variation is the Visual Basic program Cascade.dll, which was most common between the late 1990s and early 2000s. It was essentially a re-jigged version of the original virus, which instead messed up the computer in all sorts of odd ways without any sort of notification.
