User:Another n00b/The QUEST
The QUEST was a multi-player game ran beween 1985 and 1989. It was ran by "dark emac", and was one of the first online-games to support computer graphics. Ran in Anfield, Great Britain on a ZX-Spectrum, it could also run on all other computers which had a modem as long as they could support basic raster graphics. The game had about two dungeons, a countryside, a castle and a tavern to navigate. At the height of the game's popularity, it had about eight-thousand users daily. The game is basically a zork clone, at least when it comes to plot. The game starts you off at the gates of the castle, and then allows the player to roam from there without restriction. When users connected to the game, it would load all the different parts of the game which would take about two minutes or so.
Distribution[edit | edit source]
When the game was pitched to the british broadcasting company (BBC), some of its content was deemed slightly too mature for publication and was subsequently "toned down" for its availablility. The player controls the actions of the party by typing basic commands that are to be issued by the player's character and performed by either the group, Gorn or your character. The game is played largely by nonlinear exploration and finding important items to allow the player to complete the specific objective.
