Galaxy News Network was a media corporation located in Washington State, North America. Running both a Television and Radio channel, the headquarters were located in the capital of Washington D.C, close to an elementary school. It was a pro-Imperialist government network that was positive, almost sycophantic in its reporting of the War on Terror and 2011 Annex of Canada. GNN's logo was a rocket going around a planet on an orbit, a reference to the Human Empire. Its Radio channel, Galaxy News Radio (103.8 FM), was the second most popular in the USA, and the third most popular in the North American subcontinent, behind Last .FM and Wave 105.CW. Its television channel was not as famous, but it was availale in both Monochrome and colour, a step-above most channels in the Washington area.

Summary[edit | edit source]

GNN was set-up in 1982 primarily by entrepreneur John Leeuwangh with a telecommunications grant from the American Government as the second commercial Frequency modulation radio station in the state, behind Magic 1548 (which closed in 1977). After moving location from John's home-town of Old Olney to the capital, by 1984 it had 700,000 listeners in the USA alone, an impressive feat at the time. But it was not until the start of the breakfast show Mornings with Marie by famed radio presenter Marie Hilson, who had previously done work on AM-based radio on sponsored programs like Refreshment Time and The Song Shop. However, it was not until 1991 that GNN became popular enough to get the crucial promotion from the status of "State-Radio" to "International-Radio". In 1996, now with over 19 million listeners per day, it was decided to launch Galaxy News Television. Despite the fact it was still centered around American political issues and entertainment, quite a few presenters were not of American descent. Soon, famous presenters like Erik Estrada, Thaere Privo, Keith Lennon and famed Jamaican presenter Carl Fils-Aime were now featuring on the channel, which boosted both their and the station's popularity.

In 2010, a huge blow came to the station after Marie Hilson retired from the Radio business to an elderly home in Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic. The number of viewers did not drop as much as the studio executives expected it to, though. Soon, a new entertainment/action Radio Drama called "The Adventures of Daring Dashwood" with Aime and the promising new star Ri Yong-mu appeared, which served as a replacement for Mornings with Marie. But with the extremely un-easy political situation in the country, many of the presenters left in early 2012, but viewership still persisted, even if it had lost a lot of its "foreign appeal". In October 2012, there was some controversy when Thaere Privo called Nordics "Tall, stupid people who think of themselves as equal to Americans".

After the Great War[edit | edit source]

During the nuclear holocaust which occured on December 21, 2012, a nuclear weapon was detonated roughly two miles west of the location of GNTV/GNR studios. The station, which was three-quarters of the way through a news bulletin, was hit by the second nuke to land in Washington State, close to Vernon Street. The people working in the office were immediately killed without warning, and much of the building was left highly damaged. However, it was still somehow left standing. The building was abandoned, being left to rot in a derelict and diplidated state. Until 2056, when an amateur DJ known under the alias of "Three Dog" began to broadcast on the station's old equipment, which was strangely intact enough to still be used. However, it could only broadcast in the local area. Though after the Lone Wanderer fixed the Radio signal in 2078, it could now be picked-up from as far away as Idaho and (in some small cases) Oregon.

GNR was now under a very different format than it was before; it was very similar to a Pirate radio station (which doesn't matter as there wasn't even a legal system in that part of the world after the war), with "Three Dog" talking about news in the wasteland and playing whatever music tapes he could find (CED and VHS tapes, which were the main recording format before the war, were known for being notoriously delicate). As the Super Mutants from Vault 87 were raging war in the capital wasteland, the Brotherhood of Steel protected the area as it was the only way for many people to hear about information. The only other radio station, (There were no television channels after the apocalypse, obviously) the Enclave Radio, was a looped Propaganda channel from the Raven Rock Facility which asked people to support the American Government. That particular channel was being ran by an increasingly sentinent ZAX 1.2 machine calling itself John Henry Eden, which "promised reform and change", despite the continent literally being in a state of desolation and ruin.

After Three Dog died from a Jet overdose, a female engineer called Magret Jones just played the music available 24/7. After she left the capital wasteland and died from unknown causes, the looped tape eventually stopped. With no-one taking care of the station, it was soon left to rot and disintegrate into nothing. As this occured long after the Brotherhood of Steel stopped looking after the station, the building was eroded by the sands of time and not even memory managed to preserve its legacy.
