A batamite is an insult used by early Christians against Pagans and others who were said to be sexually perverse, who did not follow the sexual mores of Christians. It was invented by Pliny the Third Youngest in 13 AD. He took the existing word catamite, meaning a pubescent boy in a pederastic relationship with an older man, changing cat to bat. His definition alluded to a similar relationship between a man and a young pubescent male bat.
