Forum:A Suggestion of Sorts
There's been a lot of IP activity on ?pedia, but a lot of it has been vandullism, spam pages, and QD templates. (*coughcough* The Spam War of Octodest '19 *coughcough*) So, last week, my last three brain cells managed to get together and generate a good idea, and I came up with this thought process:
"I thought maybe there could be something like Citizendium, where only people with accounts can edit, and IPs can't edit without making an account. Like, disallow IP page creations and edits, but still allow logging in and account creation without having to request one. What do you think? Or would that not be practical?"
And because a houseplant IQ and losing 27 hours of sleep to date mixes badly, this can be simplified as follows:
- No IP page creation or edits
- No account creation from IP address - you have to request an account
- If you already have an ?pedia account, you can still login though
- (I'm not sure about the whole account creation thing, I'll figure it out eventually. (or maybe in March when I can get some sleep))
CG098 approved this idea and also said that "along with implementing a good CAPTCHA, would do a lot to cut down on spam". This forum was his idea as well, to see what y'all active users think. So what do y'all think of this idea? (P.S., my birthday is the 25th, get me stuff, or something) Sylvester Gold is a Fruity Little Fairy! 14:26, 12 Novelniver 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm also iffy about making new users request accounts. It might discourage legitimate new users, and might not do too much to keep vandals out. Still, otherwise it's a good idea, even if it was come up with by a Sagittarius :) CG098 (talk ₪ contribs) 18:25, 12 Novelniver 2019 (UTC)
- I know, the whole account thing contradicts itself. I read it when I made the page, but silly lazy me. First I say you don't have to request, then I say you do have to. Anyway, speaking of account creation, how it's set up already has a CAPTCHA and an email address field, so you'd have to confirm it before you can start editing. (Or maybe that was just me, I use a gmail account for mine) RationalWiki makes you do a CAPTCHA everytime you edit; maybe we could do that.

- And then what to do about registered users who create inadequately long articles and erase other people's work? CG098 (talk ₪ contribs) 23:54, 12 Novelniver 2019 (UTC)
- For a second I actually thought you said "IP users". But registered users, though, we could just restore the stuff they took out. I don't know about articles, but if they're about campers or ngentot, then we can just devour them. It just depends on the content, I guess. There can be a sort of warning system for
annoying usersusers who do this, so if they get to a certain level, we just block them. Or at least encourage them to be constructive.
