The Fridge Gnome is an elusive little creature that resides in every fridge in the world but only appears when the fridge door is closed - it is the Fridge Gnome and the Fridge Gnome alone that knows one the fundemental secrets of the universe: namely whether or not the fridge light really turns off when the door is closed.

History[edit | edit source]

Origin[edit | edit source]

The Fridge Gnome is believed to have evolved from the Icehouse Ifrit, which became extinct in the later half of the 18th century. Although never seen by humans, the Fridge Gnome is believed to be one of the world's most prolific species with every fridge in the world hosting at least one Fridge Gnome. Some theorists have estimated the average Fridge gnome population to be anywhere between 43,000 to -3.5 gnomes per fridge. Rumours also exist which claim that the Fridge gnome evolved divergently from the conventional gnome during the last ice age, along with the now-extinct red crested gnome-of-paradise.

Early History[edit | edit source]

When the first fridge was gifted to mankind by the powers that be the Fridge Gnome left its former habit of lush tropical jungles to inhabit the barren wastes of the common Fridge: surprisingly this new habit proved to be much more befitting of the little creature and it has since become a highly specialised species that can only be found inside fridges.

Humans have continually tried to catch a glimpse of the Fridge Gnome but have so far failed to do so as the creature vanishes as soon as the fridge door opens - one brave man tried to drill a hole through his fridge door to get a glimpse at the creature only to find his view blocked by a mysterious jar of mayo that appeared out of nowhere. Another attempted to climb into the fridge and close the door behind himself, only to realize the gnome had blinded him in the darkness.

Modern Age[edit | edit source]

The Fridge Gnome continues to fascinate and annoy people in equal measures in the modern age as people continually try to catch a glimpse of the mysterious creature or figure out how they can fit into Fridges in the first place - scientists are still puzzled as to whether or not Fridge Gnomes are true Gnomes or some sort of fungi-based life form (or if there is even a difference).

Internet Fridge Gnome[edit | edit source]

The only Fridge Gnome currently known that interacts with humans can be found on various game-based sites around the internet. However, due the the interactions being digitally-based, the knowledge of the Fridge Gnome cannot be obtained.

This also leads to the possibility that Fridge Gnomes can interact with a higher dimension, enabling them to fit both themselves and a computer inside a refrigerator without being detected.

Legends[edit | edit source]

Fridge Gnomes appear often in legends and are said to be the only beings in the universe that know one of the fundemental truths of existence: namely whether or not the fridge light turns off when the door is closed.

It is believed that anyone who can capture a Fridge Gnome is capable of learning the truth but so far all attempts have met in failure and defeat, suggesting there are some things man was simply not meant to know..
