Lamblyopia

Lamblyopia is a strain of amblyopia found in sheep. It can affect humans too because people are sheep. It usually affects lambs, but adult sheep can get it too. Llamas can get it too, as they are the giraffes of sheep.

Causes[edit | edit source]

Lamblyopia is contagious and can spread via wool, hair, milk, lanolin, diaper rash, and saliva. Unlike human amblyopia, it does not spread via Vaseline, as plain Vaseline is lanolin-free and does not contain any other sheep products. However, if the Vaseline was mixed with lanolin, lamblyopia can spread. It can also be caused by looking at the sun.

Symptoms[edit | edit source]

Feeling sheepish (sheepish means shy)

Crossed eyes

Head tilt

Diaper rash that can only be treated with lanolin or sheep's milk

Treatment[edit | edit source]

Treatment involves glasses, contact lenses, and patching the stronger eye so the weaker eye works harder. If the lamb is too shy and won't wear an eyepatch, atropine drops can be used to blur the vision in the stronger eye.

Sucess story: Isabella the sheep has recovered fast from her lamblyopia after wearing her eyepatch, she doesn't need it anymore. Another female sheep still needs her eyepatch.

Prevention[edit | edit source]

Wearing a sheep eyepatch can help prevent the spread of lamblyopia, as well as treat strabismus that can cause lamblyopia. Bangs that are too long can cause lamblyopia in lambs, so giving haircuts to your baby sheep can prevent lamblyopia.
