Lever
The lever is one of the six machines that have been called "The Six Simple Machines". However, this categorization should be a falsehood; for Lever, a living organism, is not simple at all. Some may think that Lever is simple because of the way he is constructed and functions, but he is really more complex than the eye makes him appear. Lever has gone through a deep, dark, and most importantly, complex history that has brought him to the point that he is at today.
Birth and Childhood[edit | edit source]
Lever was born in 1509 to a Miss Inclined Plane. Lever never knew his father because he ran away after his mother got pregnant. 1509 was a very important year when it came to technological advances, due to the creation of the hammer, knife, and internal combustion engine. However, a less commonly noted invention in that year was indeed Lever. Lever was born with a twin brother, Wedge, who was far more popular and charismatic than Lever. Lev, as he was called by those who knew him, was mocked as a child, all of the other new inventions made fun of him for many reasons such as "His name only has five letters and "He has a fulcrum! What a loser! I don't what a fulcrum even is but is sounds really lame!". Because he was so mocked as a child, Lever grew up disturbed.
With his own brother wishing he didn't exist, Lever made several attempts to "Fit in with the tools". He went to Work Middle School, but after several failed attempts at trying to fit, a near-mental breakdown, and two cases of food poisoning, Lever was removed from the school and taught at home by the only person who loved him: his mother. However, his mother didn't really love him, he just acted like that so he wouldn't go insane and so she wouldn't have to pay the bills to the asylum. And so she persisted at raising him, with only minor success.
Teenage Years[edit | edit source]
Soon, once Lever managed to get past Elementary and Middle School, he became a teenager. However, his teenage years were scarred with several moments of severe disappointment and pain. It all started when Lever's Mother, Inclined Plane, signed him up for High School. His twin brother, Wedge, ended up in nearly all of the same classes as Lever. Lever, who was now incredibly intelligent, excelled in his classes, while his brother did not. However, Wedge still made fun of his outcast brother, and his posse of friends, including Screwdriver, Hammer and Drill, helped. Lever was considering suicide before he met a girl named Pulley. He and Pulley fell for each other, despite constant naggings from the group of popular tools.
After nearly two years of loving, Lever discovered that all along Pulley was bribed ten thousand nails by her friends to date Lever for over two years. In a rage, Lever dumped his girl fiend and had a mental breakdown, which brings him to where he is today.
Lever Today[edit | edit source]
Today, Lever remains in his padded room in the local Tool Asylum. Everyday his psychiatrists give him a series of tests to determine whether his mental status is improving. Somedays he seems regular, but once he realizes he is in an asylum he breaks down again. On other days he is downright insane, and the Doctors perform even more tests on him after knocking him out.
The Rest of his family, after over two hundred years, has nearly forgot of his presence. When asked about her forgotten son, Inclined Plane could say "Who?". His brother Wedge, who succumbed to peer pressure, died in a car accident while under the influence of drugs. His friends, tragically, survived. Lever's father has yet to be found, and some suspect him to be dead. However, if he ever is found Lever will not be mentioned to him.
Moods[edit | edit source]
Lever can take any shape for form. A bar, a stick, a series of pieces of wood glued together, he can even be a stone. Despite being able to take any form, Lever still has three definite moods. On any given day, Lever has a set of three distinct moods: First, Second, and Third Class. Each represents a mood that Lever is in, and can explain his actions.
First Class[edit | edit source]
The First Class mood is generally Lever's most common mood. His spiritual fulcrum is in the center of his body, so when he is asked to do something, the opposite action is usually what he does. Figure one explains how this works. If he is asked to squat down, the request will enter his brian and it will attempt to function properly. However, his "Spiritual Fulcrum" is in the center of his body, and because of that, it causes him to do teh opposite, in this case, stand up.
Since this is Lever's most common mood, he easily gets frustrated. He gets angered because he believes himself to be incompetent for not being able to do what is asked of him. Whenever he does the opposite of his commands, he slips into an insane rage, and the therapists working at the facility usually contain him with a straight jacket. And he is then crammed back into his padded room at the West Wing of the building.
Recently, however, Doctors have realized that this mood may come in handy. Say it something were needed to be pried up from something, Lever could be utilized to do so. Also, they have discovered that reverse psychology works unbelievably when Lever is in First Class. If you want him to make some toast, you ask him "Lever, don't make some Toast." and he will, in fact, make the Toast.
Second Class[edit | edit source]
The Second Class mood occurs with Lever very rarely. However, when it does, its results are generally very positive. Second Class is regarded by workers at the asylum as "Lever's Best Mood" because when he is asked to do something, he does so in a delightful manner, and he tends to do it above expectations. This is possible because his "Spiritual Fulcrum" is on the end of him, so whenever some force is applied the other part of him follows the direction it was pushed. For a clear example, see Figure 2. When Lever is in this mood, that is when the Doctors at the ward consider letting him free, however they realize that he cannot sustain this mood and in the real world the results would be disastrous.
However, they have realized that sometimes this mood can be used incorrectly. Say some terrorists were to get a hold of Lever while he is in Second Class, they could tell him to purchase weapons, bombs, even ask him to pilot planes into buildings and he would do so without question.
Third Class[edit | edit source]
Third Class Mood is a mood similar to Second Class, however it differs in one way. When Lever is in third Class and is asked to do something, he will do it, but he will do the task with less enthusiasm as normal. This is because, according to Figure 3, the force encouraging him to do something is very strong but in the wrong place. When he follows through, he does it with less force than what was given to him, but he gets it done. This mood occurs very rarely, about once every six months, or at least Doctors believe from their observations on Lever while he was in the ward. The Doctors consider this the neutral mood of Lever.
Hopeful Future[edit | edit source]
The Doctors and psychiatrists at the insane ward where lever is today see a bright future for him. They have concluded that if he could manage his "Moods" to whatever he wants according to the situation he is in, he could live a very successful life out of the Ward, However, this is a long way away for Lever, and he may never see the light of day again.
