The internet has made it so that it is much easier to stay up to date with paranormal events. Sadly, it has also made it easier for people to spread many false claims and hoaxes. Because of this, it is difficult to tell when someone is contributing to a lie that has already fooled many readers or if the account is truthful.

One such phenomena is the growing number of stories regarding so-called Black Eyed Kids. The stories certainly reek of an almost mythological stench, but there are so many similar accounts that it is hard to look past. The events have been quietly gaining momentum in forums and paranormal websites, so quiet that many people are still not familiar with them. The Black Eyed Kids reports are scattered around the internet and chances are that a great deal of them are fabrications derived from the first reported accounts. But if the Black Eyed Kids (BEKs) are real, then they certainly deserve a great deal of attention. And for those that are not familiar with the phenomena, a profile might be handy in order to get familiar with the subject.

Summary[edit | edit source]

Black Eyed Kids (sometimes called Black Eyed Children or BEK) is an American urban myth about children with eyes that are solid black, with no differentiation between sclera, pupil or iris who turn up unannounced and make apparently normal requests of people. They are said to be of paranormal origin, and to exude an unnatural air that makes others suspicious of them.

Most variations on the myth put BEK in their late preteens to early teens and state that they arrive on people's doorsteps late in the evening or during the night, asking to be allowed in so that they may make a telephone call, or preform some other task such as using the bathroom. Aside from the eyes they appear to be normal well mannered youths dressed in contemporary clothes, however they are said to be surrounded by an unnatural air that makes the householder wary of them and unwilling to let them in. The accounts then go on to say that the BEK become more and more insistent about being allowed in and that as they become more insistent so the unnatural air surrounding them becomes more intense, making the householder less willing to let them in: some accounts describe their air as being almost hypnotic and as making the householder feel compelled to let them in despite their better judgment. The myth states that BEK refuse to leave until the house door is physically closed on them, at which point the story usually ends. In addition to turning up on doorsteps, some variations on the myth have them approaching cars and asking to be given a ride.

Origin[edit | edit source]

The myth of the Black eyed kids originates from a 1998 usenet posting by journalist Brian Bethel. In his posting Bethel claims to have met with two unusually confident and eloquent children who attempted to talk him into giving them a ride in his car. Bethel states that he nearly opened the door to admit the children, even though he found them vaguely unsettling, until he realized that their eyes were completely black. He reports that, as soon as he realized this, the children became angry and insistent, and he drove away quickly. His posting implies that the children may have been using some form of low-level mind control to induce him to open the car door.

Newsgroup[edit | edit source]

In case you can't get enough of those bullshit fake hoax stories, then alt.horror.black-eyed is the newsgroup for you. Owned by a user known simply as "Panyd", the newsgroup has had 106,970 different posts and gets 3000 unique visitors a month. The site has an archive of about 1,460 BEK stories, all of which are faux. The owner of the site claims he founded the site after having seen a BEK, but he was actually hallucinating at the time. The site is mostly full of the same kind of people who believe BUTCHYKID624's videos to be factual and watch Most Haunted and Ghost town on a regular basis.

DAVID, OR MAVID, IF YOU ARE HERE THIS TIES INTO WHAT JUST HAPPENED. (Don't worry it is someone you know, not the girl)

So /x/, gather round. I have a story to tell. I know most of you have to know what the "Black Eyed Kids" are, if not look it up, it is about that. My friends and I were headed to pick up another friend who live about a mile and half or so away from me. We get there and he and another one of our friends are freaking out. There was this girl on skateboard about a block or so down, apparently she had been talking to them and was asking them for stuff. (Typical for a BEK.) Anyway, we picked the one friend up and made our way down the street and drove past her. she said something, but we didn't hear and we just drove off. We come back shortly after to stop at the McDonald's, which is about a quarter mile or so away from the spot where we picked the other friend up. Dropped off another person, then drove back to the McDonald's, she was gone.

I don't know the whole back story, my friend I call to at the first knows more. They said she was 13, was wearing baggy black goth bondage pants "trendy clothing." She also said to them she had been kicked out of two schools for grabbing another students genitals.

This is not a troll story, this just happened to me and my friends about 45 min or so ago.

Pic unrelated, just didn't want to put a BEK's pic in here, too fucking scary looking.
