R.I.P LUElinks
2002 - 2011

abbreviated LUE, is one of GameFAQs' most notorious sub-systems. Initially started as a social board which had its share of serious philosophical discussions, LUElinks gradually turned into a place associated with craziness, borderline offensive topics and sometimes outright malicious behavior - including invasions of other sites or other groups with strings of offensive messages and crapfloods. While this negative association still exists in many users' minds, many LUEsers and some moderators claim this is no longer the case.

After "Black LUEsday" in 2004, LUElinks hid itself away from the outside world. Urban Dictionary where not overstating when they said that "If you don't have LUE access, chances are that you will be more successful accessing Area 51 than LUElinks". LUELinks could be described as the Jedi Order of the internet, as one simply cannot join this elite establishment - you are born as a LUElinker. However, this analogy is somewhat flawed seeing as LUElinks is exceedingly evil.

Origins[edit | edit source]

GameSpot was a gaming magazine started on January 14th, 1991 due to the rising popularity of computer games. It became revolutionary when on May 6th, 1996 it made issue 45 available on the Cnet distribution network, for the cost of a paper-copy. Though deprived of ads (or any kind of pictures), people quickly took to it's new idea. In 2004 it formed GameFAQs (gamefaqs.com), which provides frequently asked questions to popular computer games. A forum emerged on the discussion section of the website, called LUE (Life, The Universe, and Everything), in honor of the book Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, by Douglas Adams

Quickly, LUEsers devolved into spamming and stupidity9 (posting slurs and an ASCII artwork image of Mario riding Yoshi, later becoming known as LUEshi. Finally, the admin of GameFAQs, CjayC, quarantined LUE due to us "being a cancer." This fiasco prompted Llamaguy to make the LUElinks, once known as Reddit before Reddit (currently known as endoftheinter.net, due to the closure of MegaUpload (as of now, it functions as just a message board)). Apparently, we became known to host the infamous TrollTalk chatting service (I didn't know this). This reportedly gave rise to the belief that if 4chan is the asshole of the internet, LUElinks is the colon.

Controversy[edit | edit source]

Currently, posting LUElinks codes on GameFAQs is against the Terms of Use, as many links contain illegal content. The website link is also a banned word. Despite this however, LUElinks is still a thriving community, with a popular message boards system. Talking about it on GameFAQs is considered somewhat taboo and the site is often jokingly referred to as "the site that doesn't exist" (if asked what LUElinks is, many users will say that there's no such thing as LUElinks).

Additionally, as LUElinks has very lax rules on posting, many posts that are acceptable there would be moderated on GameFAQs. As LUElinks consistently sees downtime, many users temporarily flock back to GameFAQs LUE, often stirring up trouble. There is over a lifetime's worth of porn, ROMs, etc. there, as well.

TrollTalk[edit | edit source]

Main: TrollTalk

Founded in 2005, trolltalk is a chatroom ran by LUElinks. Secretly located at http://luelinks.net: 20721 http://endoftheinter.net: 20721, trolltalk is an enigma wrapped inside another enigma. The dwellers of Trolltalk were open-minded, forward-thinking, tolerant individuals. This helped to provide a welcoming and stimulating environment that anyone could enjoy and become involved in. Trolltalk was also host to a number of ASCII artists, not the best of which created the Penis-Nosed Fox. Trolltalk culture in its later years was centered around traditionally taboo subjects such as black persons, Jews (and their involvement in the World Trade Center attacks), and homosexualists, almost as a religion. Aaaaaaa. Oo. Aaaaaaaaaaaa *drip*

TrollTalk was established as a serious board for religious, philosophical, and scientific discussion. The board was especially infamous for it's rabid religious debates between atheists and Christians, although it was fairly common to see topics devoted to time travel, physics, and other scientific discussion. However, over time, it got more and more ridiculous and stupid. And when the n00b r0xx0r began at the start of the Internet wars the channel began to be crapflooded by all kinds of faggots. After two days, it was hidden and became even more secretive than it used to be.

LUEshi[edit | edit source]

LUEshi is an ASCII Art of Mario riding Yoshi. Perverted LUEsers in particular interpreted the image as Mario giving anal sex to Yoshi. Originally created by Patamon, in late 2004 it quickly became one of the most infamous ASCIIs to grace GameFAQs. Like other ASCIIs, it was moderated for being disrupted, but from there it became disruptive even in ASCII topics. Punishment grew from notifications to suspensions and purgatory.

The leading cause of LUEshi's rise was the creation of "surprise LUEshi" topics. Surprise LUEshi topics involved a serious-looking title, with the post inside just LUEshi. This got out of hand to the point of boards (LUE in particular) were filled with topics like this, and disruptive posting moderations were handed out; karma loss for this was increased steadily over time as the number of LUEshis refused to go down. In a few cases, users were banned for posting LUEshi; one such case took place on March 15th, 2004, where several LUEsers intent on account suicide mass posted LUEshi. This day became known as the "'Cides of March".

The ban-fest of Black LUEsday controversy[edit | edit source]

This was the single most controversial thing that happened in all of LUElink's life. Black LUEsday (March 4, 2004) started as a result of a Truth or Dare chat session. At the time, the social boards were filled with complaints over moderations (a fresh batch of moderators had been appointed in November 2003). LUE's growing dislike of moderators simply exploded when one of the LUEsers, tealmarie, was suspended for making a topic asking why Pikachu is yellow (after being dared to do so). At the same time, LUEser gostevie was suspended for making a topic calling for Dutch LUEsers to unite (this is believed to be unrelated to tealmarie's moderation). When DarkCobra suicided, LUE rankled into anarchy, with seventeen other account suicides, all expressing hatred and anger towards GameFAQs and its harsh policies. tealmarie was later restored, but the eighteen others had already suicided by that time. This event set the ball rolling throughout 2004 towards LUE's fate.

This cultimated when the moderation system itself broke down. As moderators were unable to moderate posts, users posted server-crashing crapflood and ToS violations galore, particularly on LUE and CE. This resulted in both boards temporarily being closed while the moderators cleaned up, banning and warning many users. Many users feared LUE was permanently closed until CJayC announced that it was only temporarily closed.

Eventually, though, it was ruled that if all mods did not have access to LUElinks, then every code that was posted was considered illegal unless it could be checked. Although some mods (such as Sashanan) were members of LUElinks, CJayC ruled that all mods needed to be allowed for efficient queue clearing. Facing the choice of either granting all moderators access to a community that was meant to be a place *away* from their eyes (many LUElinks regulars are banned GameFAQs users who prefer not to be reminded of the site) or no longer being allowed to post LUElinks codes, the LL regulars quickly chose the latter.

Later that year, LUElinks was temporarily made public; that is, anybody could read the message boards and look at the links. This was highly controversial, with a number of users voting against opening it to the public. To quell fears, LlamaGuy added a "private links" option (allowed users to mark links as private and consequently could not be seen by the general public) and coded the boards so only the user ID would be visible to non-members. However, after a short while, the experiment was closed and LUElinks was closed to the public again.

The recipe[edit | edit source]

  • Take Doritos of the Cooler Ranch Persuasian and place atop Pop-tart.
  • Place Cheese in Chocolate Puddin’
  • Consume all of it.

Downfall[edit | edit source]

The ObLUEteration is the series of events set off by user DarkCobra throughout 2023 which ultimately played a part in the destruction of LUElinks and the birth of LUE3. While DarkCobra had a large reputation for being a troublemaker, literally no one expected for him to take things as far as he did, or for reasons as petty as he did.

Throughout early 2023, DarkCobra was an active member in Super Mario Bros. movie topics, where on multiple occasions he would post spoilers for the associated game series, which went against the topic’s rules. In June 2023, Philoktetes suspended DarkCobra for 3 days for continually posting spoilers. DarkCobra retaliated by literally reporting Philoktetes to the FBI’s tip line mere moments later. While it might be surmised that he was under the influence at the time, this first report occurred in the mid-afternoon (not that that rules anything out, of course). This level of over the top retribution for a minor suspension had never before been seen in the history of the site. It only even came to light when SBAllen himself received a knock on the door by FBI agents in late June.

By September SBAllen had successfully worked with his lawyer and the federal agents to close the case against LUElinks and the sixteen users implicated. None of their personal information was handed over to the FBI, and no charges were made. This meant, of course, that DarkCobra had submitted false reports to the FBI, itself a potential crime. A new investigation began, this time into DarkCobra himself, which resulted in his conviction and indefinite incarceration.

Also SBAllen had to explain to his lawyer why LUEsers keep saying the n word on their anonymous board.
