Forum:Featured articles portal?
Right. You might have noticed that, as part of the Site-Wide Improvement Drive™, I've been attempting to prettify/updatify some of the more prominent links from the front page and sidebar. So far, I've tweaked the front page with a couple of new templates, updated the Community Portal and completely overhauled the Browse page.
Next on the list is the featured articles page. Now, I'm all in favour of keeping the list so that every featured article would be accessible, but I was thinking of creating a kind of "Featured Content" portal. It wouldn't be exactly like Wikipedia's, it'd be waaaay more half-arsed and, erm, stolen...
Anyway, my idea is this. Since the featured articles list is getting a bit long to digest for the casual reader, we have a vote/discussion about the best of the best of the best articles which will be placed on the "Portal", for which I haven't yet decided the format. These would be the articles that newbies see when they arrive and should represent a fair variety of the kind of articles that we want people to create. I'm not saying that articles like Repetition, Flogging etc. don't have a prominent place in Illogicopedia's history, it's just... well, that sort of stuff wouldn't get featured today.
I'd appreciate your opinion on this and if enough people agree we can strike some kind of lengthy discussion about the subjectiveness of humour... :P -- Hindleyak Converse • ?blog • Click here! 12:59, 8 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
- I wouldn't have a problem with spotlighting some of the site's coolest stuff. It could be like a "best of" thing, but less overwhelmingly large than the "featured articles" category. We'd have to make sure that we included a good variety of articles in the collection though, to make sure that we can convey the great variety that comes from having as much literary freedomn as this site provides. And yes, I did just write "freedomn." --THE 19:28, 8 Ditzimber 2008 (UTC)
