Yes check.svg This page documents what purports to be Illogicopedia policy, as applied by the powers that be.

Ignore at your own risk, but be aware that, according to Admin laws, the Werewolves are open to bribery,
at least when the Police aren't looking. Quick, scatter!

“If you're confused, I'm amused.”

Illogicopedia is supposed to be amusing, a word which here means, "interesting for other people to look at and possibly even read". This page outlines what we see as desirable content. See Illogicopedia:No Total Crap for an outline of content that we do not allow.

While you are encouraged to follow these guidelines, be careful not to overthink your contributions. On Illogicopedia, you are encouraged to write before you think.

Interesting[edit | edit source]

Interesting means it must have redeeming value of some kind. We don't accept content that we technically define as "total crap". This means stuff that is completely boring and/or has absolutely no redeeming value. Our standards are pretty low. In fact, we purposefully make them so low that just about anyone can write stuff for our web site without worrying about it too much. But we do have standards. (Sometimes.)

For other people[edit | edit source]

Content that you post here should have some (nonsensical) meaning to at least one or more of the groups on the following list:

  1. Other people that you don't know who don't know you
  2. People who read or are involved in this web site
  3. People generally and/or the public at large

Humor[edit | edit source]

Though not a requirement or the main goal of the site, humor is valued on Illogicopedia, often quite highly. Most featured or prize-winning articles contain elements of humour. It takes a wide variety of forms, from simple one-liners and minimalistic puns to complex and absurd narratives and chains of unreason. Random humor for the win.

Intellectual level[edit | edit source]

Complex and subtle references are usually fine, but you should generally, in most cases, try to stick to things that people who understand what your article's title means are likely to be able to grasp. If you go so far over the heads of your readers that nobody really receives the message you are communicating, that's not really very entertaining. If your subject involves advanced intimate knowledge of a specific topic, your article's title should reflect that. An exception is when you are raising the intellectual bar for sarcastic reasons. In general, try to keep it to a level that most high school graduates can dig, you feelin' me dawg?

This is not a prohibition or a requirement, just a suggestion of what might be "better", because teaching and education are not among our goals. Illogicopedia is supposed to be a fun, relaxed place to take a break from seriousness and reality. Reading it shouldn't feel like you're doing your homework.

To look at and possibly even read[edit | edit source]

“A picture is worth a bajillion words”

~ Me

It doesn't have to be readable as long as it is interesting to look at! "A hamster on a keyboard" is interesting to look at simply because it was actually written by a hamster. "Mirror" is another good example of a non-readable article that's interesting to look at. But generally, for the most part, people read stuff around here. Readability is definitely a plus.
