The YouTube System
The YouTube system was a genius way of watching and even streaming videos without Internet or even computers. It was clearly well-ahead of it's time, especially since not a lot of people knew exactly how to operate the bloody thing. It was used by around 1,700,930 people, and although it was invented in 1903, it wasn't unveiled to the general public until 1904. It is commonly reffered to unofficially as The YouTube 1911 because of it's tribute on The modern YouTube for April fool's day in 2011. It was most influential on the creators of the modern YouTube, who took the name from this.
How it works[edit | edit source]
Basically, one person sends what is the equivilint of a telogram using electricity, and sends it through the electric line to the other end, which would have to be tuned into that end in order to recieve the signal. This would work in the same way a telephone would, however, the electric funnel would have to be connected to a Kinetogram in order for it to be viewed.
What was required for it to work[edit | edit source]
- Kinetogram
- A long, sharp electric funnel
- A recipient
- A lot of patience
Problems with the concept[edit | edit source]
Considering the fact only a couple of people really owned a Kinetogram, and they'd hardly use it to view a 32-second video of a befuddled man who has been hijinked into singing about the hooliganism he has witnessed with his very own eyes. And also, if one tuned into the YouTube system when a recipient was not chosen, it would display only a black screen. Some people reffered to this as "The black displeasurement", and some would get frustrated at this often-unwanted site. The YouTube also took 19 minutes to load; despite the fact the videos themselves where usually 16-39 seconds long. Also, the bosses at factories dis-approved of it due to it "distracting the workers".
April Fool's day 2011[edit | edit source]
On April Fool's day 2011, the modern YouTube made a tribute to it's inspiration; by making a "top 5 viral pictures of 1911". This confused the un-educated, so it has to be "explained" a little. They also made it so that one can view any videos from whenever they where made, so when you add onto the URL "&vintage=1911" it would show the video with intentionally crappier audio and in sepia tones. Not only that, but the YouTube corporation started re-making and selling Kinetograms in an attempt to show people how YouTube could exist back in the old days. However, it never caught on, and rumors say that old, lost videos which haven't been seen for litterally hundreds of years can be viewed if you choose the right recipent. It is hard to say whether or not this is true, but it may actually be because of how the system works.
