Talk:The Holy Broken Chair of Fluffiness
Edit warring[edit source]
This edit that Kate seems to want to keep making, IMHO, does not fit with the article. It could possibly even be considered a personal attack, since it claims that pneumoconosiliwhateveriosis is the Welsh translation of The Holy Broken Chair of Fluffiness, and while this may seem innocent at first glance when one looks at several of Kate's edits (example) you will see a number of, shall we say, less-than-flattering comments by her about the Welsh language. And she knows I speak Welsh, so I'm starting to think this is some sort of crusade against me; and if it is, I would much prefer she keep it out of Illogicopedia or be forced to. We're supposed to have fun here, right? Illogicopedia is not a battleground, let's not use it as a place to attack our fellow users. ❦ Flyingcat (meow?) 01:20, 29 Octodest 2013 (UTC)
- Well, in order to shed some light on this issue we'd have to see what Kate thinks, but to pitch in my perspective, at the moment we should probably just assume good faith and hope that she only meant these things as a lighthearted joke and not a personal attack (besides, she seems a nice enough person). The situation's rather complex, though — for instance, I've made fun of languages too, eg. Spanish and Korean, but without the knowledge of whether or not users would be of that descent on the wiki and/or take anything to offence. Also, I don't just target one particular language and my comments aren't all that repeated. -That. Was. AWESOME! (talk) 23:15, 29 Octodest 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. I tried assuming good faith; I stopped after a while after trying to discuss this or that concern with Kate (on Wackypedia - see here, where she ended by blanking her talk page, an apparently common reaction to undesirable comments as I have seen on still other wikis) because she just refuses to discuss almost anything - and now I have just given up. There is nothing wrong with making fun of languages, but when a user does it repeatedly, making not only one or two comments in an article but edit warring to keep them there, making comments related to that language but not much else on talk pages, and making edit summaries that make fun of the language for no real reason for a relatively inconsequential/unconstructive edit to a page that did not even have any Welsh content, you start to wonder if it's really benefitting anyone. At least I do.
- The fact that your comments do not repeatedly target the same language actually sets you apart from Kate, I would argue. Not that I want to argue, of course; this whole battleground mentality that Kate seems to have when dealing with me is kind of draining. ❦ Flyingcat (meow?) 05:25, 30 Octodest 2013 (UTC)
- I think it is worth noting it is very hard to write articles for a humour subjected wiki without being somewhat bias, even if it does create conflicting points of view. Sure neutrality works if you are presenting facts, but when making a joke it is very hard to not offend any one group. Try not to make it personally, I doubt it is something personal. ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!) 07:36, 30 Octodest 2013 (UTC)
- And you would be absolutely right there, Frosty; but I'm talking about something that goes far beyond this seemingly tiny Welsh thing, a consistent pattern that one doesn't see unless one also examines her edits to Wackypedia, French Illogiwikia (for lack of a better name), Mirror Uncyc and Daemonica, and that under several usernames and IPs. I also did not mention the message she left me on Welsh Uncyclopedia that seemed to me totally inappropriate, so much so that I just rolled it back. This strange message came after I had given up trying to explain why Wackypedia and Logimalwikia shouldn't be edited anymore after being met with strange comments that explained nothing and having what I said removed from her talkpage ('removal of extra-Wikia links'), and when I was first starting to realise that my attempt at keeping the wikis free from silly Phyllis Hyman, Alicia Keys and Tamia Hill quotes and keeping what parts of it I could as links to the new sites was a total waste of time because Kate just did not give up. In fact, she was so intent on exterminating me from the wikis she had decided to call 'Phyllogicopedia', though that was not really their name (and IMHO is stupid anyway - who'd want to read a wiki all about Phyllis Hyman?) that she requested I be globally blocked. And I was. That means I can't edit any Wikia wiki logged in except maybe a few talkpages, and that until 15 October 2014! At least they managed to disable autoblock but still, I can't edit semiprotected pages or move anything - I'd have to request it, which is just stupid - and my edits won't be attached to my account, all that stuff. And considering what Kate seems to think of me, she might even be happy if she knew how it made me feel to be globally blocked. For some of us, unfortunate as it may be, it's more than just a little technical restriction. ❦ Flyingcat (meow?) 12:01, 30 Octodest 2013 (UTC)
- It's hard to determine where all this drama started, but from what I can gather (I apologise if I'm incorrect), you weren't particularly pleased with her consistently quoting Phyllis Hyman etc. in articles that didn't really call for it, which led to the initial stages of this edit warring. Whilst it's fair to say that an entire wiki based on a single subject would defeat the purpose of Wackypedia/Logimalpédie/whatever, a lot of Illogicopedians have particular interests that they write about often, even if it's to the extent of creating a forced meme here or there. I mean, if you look at current user Felis Lupis/Lupus, most of his articles and edits are about Pokémon and similar videogames, even if the article concept isn't really related, but hey - what he writes is pretty funny, so I just leave it there. Most of what I write is just references to shows anyway, which'd be a bit more obvious if I was a bit less self-conscious here on the wiki. I'm not trying to say your rollbacks were wrong or anything, just attempting to understand your point of view. -That. Was. AWESOME! (talk) 02:10, 31 Octodest 2013 (UTC)
- Would actually be fine with me if it were just Phyllis Hyman quotes (that said, Kate does seem a bit fixated on Phyllis' being dead, which is a little weird). It only started being a drama when we began fighting over the Wikia forks of the ?pedias from which the community had left; after that we never got on very well and stopped assuming good faith in each other.
- Also, I can't rollback anything here because I don't have the right, and possibly never will, so I don't know why you used that word. ❦ Flyingcat (meow?) 02:54, 31 Octodest 2013 (UTC)
