How'd this get unprotected? Log entries lost in one or another of the server moves? ❦ Flyingcat (meow?) 02:51, 10 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
- Is this something I can address, Flyingcat? 04:06, 10 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
- You could restore the full protection if you wanted. I'm not sure it's necessary, though -- it hasn't been vandalized since 2014. I just thought it was odd that it wasn't protected even though nobody ever removed the protection. ❦ Flyingcat (meow?) 04:30, 10 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
- Some of the data can be lost in old wikis. In uncyclopedia, for example, old users with no recent contributions will often be regarded as "not-registered."--The Pioneer (A.K.A. 開拓者) 08:47, 10 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
- That only happens due to server moves that don't successfully import the user database. I assume you're talking about the fork -- the original Uncyclopedia doesn't have this problem. [1] ❦ Flyingcat (meow?) 18:02, 10 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
- Well, OK, that can be the case in some situations, but I've also seen such cases on Japanese Uncyclopedia (which has always been hosted on Carlb's server and never moved). Also, there's this user Another n00b (and, for example, this guy, who acted as a vandal, never renamed but currently "not registered") here on Illogicopedia. As for the Japanese Uncyclopedia, it's probably because it used to suffer from server downs in the past. So here's the point: if Illogicopedia also had server downs in the past, this can be the reason for it, even if the website has never moved.--The Pioneer (A.K.A. 開拓者) 18:20, 10 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
- I don't know what happened with Japanese Uncyclopedia. I know Illogicopedia has moved several times -- it was originally hosted on Editthis, then moved to Wikia, then moved to Carlb's server, then moved to where it is now. That's the source of it here. There is also some sort of extension or MediaWiki setting that causes accounts to be deleted after some period of time if they've never been used or if they're blocked (probably mw:Manual:removeUnusedAccounts.php), which is on one or more of Carlb's wikis. OTOH it could be due to server outages as you said. I should have said "as far as I know". ❦ Flyingcat (meow?) 18:50, 10 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
