All I have is a laptop, with MediaWiki 1.40.0-wmf.10, and soon PHP and apache httpd. Is it possible to even run a wiki with just a laptop? It feels as if it isn't, but it could work, if I try hard enough.

Actually, I probably won't need to use WiFi for installing or testing the wiki (e.g. http://192.168.0.1/maintenance/install.php) because I can just use "localhost" (or 127.0.0.1) instead. That way I don't need to use WiFi at all (when getting the localsettings.php file)

Even if she didn't install a firewall on her computer, there might be a firewall on the router that blocks incoming connections. Most people never have to look at this, and I'd say for at least 90% of people they're still able to do 100% of what they want to do on the Internet.

If you were hosting it from your own laptop, that would be easiest (relatively speaking). If you were doing it from a school laptop, that would add some challenges: your school might have its own firewall installed, or use a proxy server, or prohibit users from installing software, or have policies against using district hardware to host unauthorized websites....
