Forum:What the hell is going on?
So this morning when I tried to go to illogicopedia I got some bizarre error message. Something like: "Illogicopedia is not working." Now, the site is loading again BUT the recent changes section is empty and a number of recently created articles seem to have disappeared completely (check the bottom of my userpage along with the news section on the main page). There's nothing in the deletion log for these vanished articles. They've simply disappeared. To further illustrate this bizarre phenomenon, check out the contribution pages for Nerd42 and Testes. It shows none of the pages either of them created recently. What the hell. --THE 17:48, 11 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
- Okayyyy...now it's a bit better. Some of the vanished articles have reappeared. BUT none of the contributions made by anyone from the 6th of September to today are showing. --THE 18:02, 11 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
One of the hard drives is giving this error:
# fsck /dev/sdb2 fsck 1.39 (29-May-2006) e2fsck 1.39 (29-May-2006) fsck.ext2: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while trying to open /dev/sdb2
The site has been restored onto another hard drive from backups, but that leaves a few days of recentchanges still missing. --Carlb 18:21, 11 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
At least there weren't snakes on any of the planes this time. :( --Carlb 19:27, 11 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
- I never got that joke. -- Dxpenguinman, the Penguinman ...He's e-vile! • Talk • Got An Idea? • GAMESHOW! 10:15, 12 Octodest 2009 (UTC)
- So do we get these days back or not? 19:42, 11 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
I haven't been able to recover anything from them, no. The bad hard drive has been replaced and the site reloaded from backups, but that does leave a very nasty gap in special:recentchanges in 7-10 Serpeniver 2009. It looks like it crashed around 8am (NY time) on 9/11, with the database server as Ground Zero. --Carlb 22:27, 11 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
- Augh, Imade like 5 zillion edits yesterday. I might cry at the state of my life 22:31, 11 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
I think its wikia's fault. They have hid purposeful bugs in our site encoding which one by one will srase our memory. Or, we got attacked by two planes.--Ben Blade 12:40, 12 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
- I tried to edit yesterday but the servers were down. Also, I will be editing mostly on weekends now because of school. -- 13:25, 12 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
IT WAS THE JEWS DON'T YOU KNOW MyMetalFanfiction—talk 15:15, 12 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
- I'm kidding, it was a conspiracy perpetrated by the admins as a pretext for going to war against Wikia so that we can get
oilmore users. Of course. MyMetalFanfiction—talk 15:17, 12 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)- It's a conspiracy! -- Hindleyak Converse • ?blog • Click here! 20:51, 12 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
- If this were a conspiracy by eastern communists to hurl all things Western and Digital into the seas, the media would have jumped on it and created a scandal by now... which they predictably would name seagate or some such. So far, three recovered images have no corresponding article text or file description Image:Picture 60.jpg, Image:Cockbeast.JPG, Image:WE WaNT YOU.png. --Carlb 21:36, 12 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
I expect those are deleted images. --Nerd42 03:05, 14 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
Dangit I wrote lots of great stuff over those few days. I really did. Including an article on Atheology which I'll probably never write up again. --Nerd42 03:48, 14 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
- Go on Nerd, it's fairly easy redoing it if you get into it. It had something about Thor, atheists, norse Godss, lightning, supernaturalnss/unpupernaturalness. The Christian God, umm, yeah 08:32, 14 Serpeniver 2009 (UTC)
