Well, I've heard of IXL, and yes I use my school macbook (it's the only computer i have, after all), but they haven't forced me to download anything. Unless it's Google Remote Desktop, I delete that immediately. Is something wrong?

So I looked up "What is the quantum theory in simple terms" and I can't even pretend to understand it. If I'm right, it has to do with physics, and other quantities are bound to discrete something. I used to know how to assign quantum numbers to electrons, and I can understand what science popularizers say when they talk about quantum physics, but the math is far too advanced for me to do real quantum physics. hey guys guess who fucked up massively

that's right, me. (and excuse my french) i guess i should explain the whole thing, so here goes. (inhales) okay, so i decided to send in a volunteer application for Burning Man. i applied for three teams: regionals, nonprofit/global projects, and census. what i didn't realize is that census volunteers are at the entrance of BMan. In Nevada. Already there's a problem, because i live in south carolina, which is just about across the country. also, to actually be on the playa, you have to buy a ticket. tickets aren't given out for free. in fact, reserving a single ticket costs $2500, and obv i don't have that. i'm working 2 jobs this summer, but i don't know if i'll have enough money for a ticket by august. also, my mom won't let me USE the money in my acct, so there's another problem. i mean, there's always the cross country trip we're taking this summer, but that may not be around the time of burn week, which is late august to maybe labor day. (edit: also, BMan is held in the Black Rock Desert, so there's the whole "driving thru miles of desert" thing) (and oh yeah, i forgot to mention the age predicament, because i'm only 17, and you have to be 18 to go by yourself.)

Hello, Senny. I'd strongly recommend that you reverse course and not go at all, the main reason being that you're underage. Even if you successfully managed to acquire the tickets and make your way to Nevada, you'd still be too young to be a part of the staff. Not only that, but the fact that your parents have no knowledge of this would make it even worse. If for some reason, you are now obligated to go to the event due to their acceptance of your application, you should write them back saying that you no longer wish to go. I know it's probably disheartening to hear that you can't go, but trust me, as someone who tried to do stuff like this while underage, it's not worth the trouble. 18:52, 2 Aym 2021 (UTC)

I would also like to add that if you happen to get the virtual census volunteer (which is what should ideally happen), try to do it clandestinely. If your mother doesn't know what Burning Man is and decides to look it up, she might see it as a debaucherous, drug-ridden event for desert hippies (which it is not, but that's how outsiders see it) and would thus disallow you from associating with it. If you feel that you are unable to do the volunteer work away from sight, then you ought to be upfront with your mother and tell her what it is that you're volunteering for. So soon after after I typed up this section, I sent an email to the question-answering/help people asking what to do. She said there's 5 regionals near me. (nearest is Charlotte) (and there's also gonna be a BMan on VR, but i obv don't have VR) And I could always pull up a BMan FAQ for her, if she asks about it. But census isn't too terribly bad - I'm merely counting the number of debaucherous, drug-ridden hippies. :)

@2+2 - I guess I should reply and ask if it's possible to get the virtual census volunteer work, because if it turns out I am stuck doing census, I'm best doing it virtually. and come to think of it, i didn't see anything about age limits for virtual volunteer work. But yeah, it is sucky that I can't go. I'd love to go there one day.

so y'all know i'm pansexual, right? So my mom found out this morning (i hadn't come out to her before then) and ... it really did not go over well with her. she basically was in denial about it. plus she was really heterosexist about it, which really hurt me. i remember afterwards i was in my room, and i cried about it a little bit, like "Why can't you just accept me?". i felt really crushed and rejected. like, i'm pan, this makes me part of who i am, and she basically said that's BS, you're straight. just... it really hurt my feelings.

An easier way to revert vandalism

Thanks for your help. Since youre a Phantom, you have an easier way to revert edits. All you do is click "[Ghost]" next to the edit on the recent changes or past frenzies page.
