了, never to be confused with ア, is a letter that shows past or/and perfect tense in Japanese and Chinese.

- A: I am here了.
- B: If you "were" here, why can you have a conversation with me now?
- A: I said I've been here.
- B: Since when?
- A: Let me see... When your grandma is born了.
- B: WTF?
