This may be annoying to other active users, and there is a good chance it will be ignored, but could someone tell me, if they have any idea, what is up with all these new users flooding in with similar styles of names (usually something like BlahBlahJr) that never create a userpage or even get any contribs going? Are they robots? When I attempt to communicate with them, can they even respond? Can I start posting welcome things like Uncyclopedia does? Jus' wunderin... --Xappa, a noob and true idiot.\Communication 04:51, 20 Yoon 2013 (UTC)
- From what I've heard, it just seems like an influx of bots. That. Was. AWESOME! (talk) 04:58, 20 Yoon 2013 (UTC)
- Awesomedecks is right. ?pedia has had something of a bot infestation for some time now. --marbury (talk) 05:35, 20 Yoon 2013 (UTC)
- What sorta captcha thing exists? Maybe if one doesnt exist or if it's not very effective make it one of those blurry wordthings that almost all wikis have. I'm fairly sure this wiki doesn't. Also the spambots are somewhat harmless and can be ignored. They rarely if ever make edits and can quite easily be reverted, deleted or banned if they do. ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!) 11:11, 20 Yoon 2013 (UTC)
- Aye, spambots, a scourge to many a wiki. The current prevention system is a numerical sum presented in the distorted 'captcha' style, but the parasites seem to have either started solving them or somehow got round it completely. -- Ben Blade 15:48, 20 Yoon 2013 (UTC)
- I see... thank you for clearing that up. I feel dumb now for trying to communicate with those damn dirty bots. But also, why does Illogicopedia have this captcha sum box for creating new pages, whereas Uncyclopedia didn't the last time I was on there? And they don't seem to have a bot infestation, either. --Xappa, a noob and true idiot.\Communication 16:28, 20 Yoon 2013 (UTC)
- Uncyclopedia has a 'blurry word' and also AbuseFilter which makes it harder for automatic accounts to be created. ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!) 05:33, 21 Yoon 2013 (UTC)
