Forum:Flyingcat for admin
Hi, I'd like to nominate Flyingcat for admin, because s/he has been actively combating spammers, and has agreed to run for it if nominated. I should also note that it was Flyingcat who created a forum regarding the AbuseFilter, and I think s/he is capable of creating one. I think s/he can combat spammers well, making Illogicopedia a better place. Thanks.--The Pioneer (A.K.A. 開拓者) 07:56, 6 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
- Wait, I wonder if I actually have the right to nominate.. Couldn't find any policies regarding it.--The Pioneer (A.K.A. 開拓者) 08:01, 6 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
- Case resolved. Seems I can nominate, and thus officially would like to nominate Flyingcat for admin.--The Pioneer (A.K.A. 開拓者) 09:56, 6 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
- I both nominate myself and Flyingcat for admins --Sophia, The Resident Uncyclopedia Deity AMB (talk) 17:32, 6 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
- Hmm, I'm not sure whether you can nominate yourself, Sophia. At least, Flyingcat don't think so. (And I don't think I would nominate you, either, because I saw what happened on these pages, or because I've never seen you actually combating vandals/spams so far)--The Pioneer (A.K.A. 開拓者) 18:33, 6 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
- P.S. If you really want to nominate yourself, you should make another forum about it by yourself, but no one can guarantee that it won't be deleted or snowball claused by admins.--The Pioneer (A.K.A. 開拓者) 18:39, 6 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
- I couldn't find any policy about nominating yourself. I'm assuming it's not ok because it usually isn't. Wikipedia is an exception, and even there they tend to get all huffy and accuse you of hat collecting. Here's a link because really, you shouldn't do that. "Fun? Is that what you think we're here for? Fun?!" ❦ Flyingcat (meow?) 19:28, 6 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)

So I've been told I should make a case for giving me this position. Let's see. 2+2 and XY007 have already been made admins, and they're doing good stuff. Mars Cadbury cleared out the 60+ QD backlog, and 2+2 created my suggested filter. Awesome. However, due to the high ratio of spam edits to constructive edits, filter 7 was evidently disabled, and this sort of thing may occur again in the future. We'll still need people to delete spam. There are still long periods of time in which none of the admins are online. The problem is not that they are lazy but that there aren't enough of them.
Another administrative issue that hasn't been mentioned so far is featured articles. The last one was featured in July last year, so there hasn't been any feature on the front page in months. There are plenty of nominations that have been there for years and have a sufficiently high score to pass. No one is touching this area -- I guess everyone's concerned with spam at the moment. I'd be happy to help out, but of course I can't.
Of course these are all symptoms of the real problem, which is that we don't have enough editors in general. We need to attract new ones. People walk away and don't get replaced. But then that's not something we can fix nearly as easily. I'm around regularly at the moment, I'm willing to help, and I have just enough in the way of look-it-up and throw-stuff-at-the-wall skills to deal with technical areas. Also, I have more than 12 months of tenure, I've written articles, I won't abuse the tools etc. All that what. So yeah. ❦ Flyingcat (meow?) 22:35, 9 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
- Oops, actually Singular Ways to Die was featured in October. Its nomination page isn't marked as closed, though, so it's still on VFF. October is still a long time ago. ❦ Flyingcat (meow?) 22:56, 9 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)
