Forum:Where do you get yer ideas???/?

I'm rather curious to see where people get their inspiration for articles from. Do you try to think of ideas, or do ideas just pop in to your head? For me, it's a mix. A lot of article ideas come to me really late at night, when I'm almost asleep. The Barber and the Gerbilsucker, The Monstrous Monster from the Murky Marsh and Slugs. came to me at this time, among many other articles. Some articles are loosely based on dreams I had (such as Are You Still...Naked?). Some of my articles are also based on things that have happened to me, though I always bury them in so much symbolism that I myself actually forget what they're about. And a lot of them are things I just come up with on the spot, including melville amsterdam. So wot about you guys? Where do your article ideas come from? --THE 01:14, 25 Farbleum 2009 (UTC)

Uhhm, for me it sort of depends... all my articles lately (Precifice, Coalescing, Pachyrosailframe) have been based upon a mixture of recent dreams and automatism (i.e. automatic writing: trying to write without any influence from the conscious mind). Otherwise in general what I try to do is imagine impossible ideas that I could get a reaction from... what reaction I want depends on the article. Like MMF, in a way I do get them from dreams, in fact, i thought up Interviewing Yourself while half-asleep. The next morning, i straight away wrote it up. Some of my recent ones are just randomly thought up, but right now I'm working on thinking of the next big article that will get me the feature. I'll ask the questions here! was in fact not my idea. One of my friends just started talking about what if you made your own gameshow, and he thought it up and I used it. Intellectual property? Or something? I don noe. I just get them from events. --Penguin-chick evil.jpg Dxpenguinman, the Penguinman ...He's e-vile! Talk Got An Idea? GAMESHOW! 13:14, 25 Farbleum 2009 (UTC)

I use automatic writing of sorts sometimes (e.g. It is late and I am tired), but unlike what the Wikipedia article says (the person is not aware of what they are writing), I consciously write the sentences, but I write them based on whatever comes into my head. Most of my articles, however, are ideas I consciously get and develop (e.g. This is the story of Bob). Some WHAT!? (talk) (contribs) (edit count) 22:25, 26 Farbleum 2009 (UTC)

I don't get ideas, I just get depressed by the blank screen in front of me. Failing that, sugar. --TReich (My Bad) 22:33, 26 Farbleum 2009 (UTC)

I smack my head against hard metal objects to get the creative juices flowing... nah, actually I carry around this little journal/book thing and jot down random ideas I get for things. I haven't gotten around to most of them yet though which kinda sucks... but it's a good thing to do anyway, I think. I recommend it to people. People should carry around journals. They're good for smacking your head against. --Fishalishalish 03:07, 27 Farbleum 2009 (UTC)

Well, I take a cocktail of drugs. I mix that up with vodka and toast and i've got hands that can break through anythng, from keyboards to... steel keyboards.
Nah, actually - dunno.--Ben Blade

I buy them at the Idea Store. What, did you think ideas grew on trees? --Nerd42 16:16, 27 Farbleum 2009 (UTC)
