That patients ought to be deprived of marijuana, which has been clinically and experimentally proven to be effective for nausea, pain, anxiety and more, by the same standards used to test any drug in the United States? A drug which may be taken in a number of ways, including sublingually (under the tongue... actually the optimum way to dose: no smoke or vapor to inhale; bypasses digestive tract entirely, saving wear and tear on the liver and other organs and organ systems; works quickly because it is almost directly routed to the central nervous system) and by suppository, if properly prepared? A drug which keeps me on lower doses of pain medications? One of the cheapest drugs to make? And don't even try to argue for so-called nutritional supplements, herbal remedies and vitamins. The marijuana industry in the US has real oversight with teeth like the FDA, because some people are terrified of it, meaning one can be assured one is getting what the label says You would deprive cancer, MS, Lupus and other patients of relief which can seldom be replicated by other drug? See above for "my people". Although I object to your use of the phrase, "I guess", I accept your concession. I will further expound on my point of view by saying that I think folks who use prescription meds for fun are pecker tracks, and their shady dealings directly affect patients by making it unnecessarily difficult to get pain meds, and doctors reluctant to be perceived as "over prescribing" by medical bureaucracies and the vagaries government regulation. I have read and heard of situations where people in real pain who could not get any relief by normal channels have bought prescriptions on the street, and some even resort to using heroine because it's cheap. That scares the hell out of me.

On a lighter note, I now have Maxwell House Columbian coffee, so I don't have to drink the swill we've had lately. I found a huge box of freeze dried gorilla nipples in my Cthulhu closet. That's a closet which interdimensionally links my bedroom to the horrors of Cthulhu's domain. My dog keeps going in there to chase shoggoths. Every time she returns, she's been a little more... changed. It smells like cinnamon and squid shit, and the awful sounds seem to echo off walls of impossible geometries.

I do go on at times. You need to pay closer attention. I said, "I object to your use of the phrase, "I guess"", not "standard". Don't know where you got standard. "I guess" is lazy, and might imply that conceding the argument notwithstanding, you're still not convinced that I am right.

With regard to the effectiveness of marijuana versus other medications approved for the same uses, the situation is the same as with any other medications. Everyone has a n unique set of physical, chemical and biological traits. Not surprisingly, meds can work differently for one group of people versus another. Marijuana is commonly known to alleviate nausea, and certain strains are cultivated to maximize this effect for people with this trouble. Other strains are developed for anxiety and a number of other conditions, and are constantly being perfected. There are pills called Marinol, which is refined from marijuana, selecting only the compounds effective for nausea. So as to which med is best for conditions treatable by marijuana or other meds, it is very much a question of which works best. If the patient has feelings against using marijuans, of course the doctor should address it.
