To all the ladies (yeah!) I want you to listen
Hey, ladies! (yeah!) 1980!

Come on let's go 2 the brothel!

2 is a very important number. It is one of the first words to be developed in any language, the first plural, and important to certain kinds of logic. Unfortunately, that has the side-effect of making it boring.

2 as Language[edit | edit source]

2 has many uses in language:

  • it is one of the first words 2 develop
  • it is the first plural (and therefore one of the only times where 2 is the first of something)
  • it is commonly used in abbreviated speech 2 denote any of the following:
    • to
    • too
    • two
    • tw
  • it is the smallest possible number required for something 2 be plural.

As you can see, therefore, 2 is a very vital number in language. There is indeed a language based on the number 2 - binary.

2 as Logic[edit | edit source]

2 is also very important to logic: it is the minimum number of possible values in formal logic and the wrong answer in informal logic.

Formal logic[edit | edit source]

Boolean logic makes extensive use of 2. In turn, Boolean logic is applied to computers and other electronic devices, because they fundamentally have only 2 states: off and on. So really, the number 2 is what makes computers work. This makes 2 vital.

Informal logic[edit | edit source]

In informal logic, 2 is the wrong number of scenarios and is normally a logical fallacy known as a false dilemma. If there really are only 2 scenarios, you should head over to formal logic.
